The 2026 Mission Foods SCCA National Championship Runoffs
The 63rd National Runoffs—its final edition at Road America—delivered plenty of surprises. St. Louis Region member Mark Webber made his 73rd Runoffs start, while 80 of the 401 drivers competed as rookies. Milwaukee Region member Cam Ebben charged from last place to win the SMX National Championship and a remarkable $30,000 prize from Mazda. In Formula Vee, Brian Farnham recovered from an off-track spin and battled through the field to claim a dramatic last-to-first victory. Fourteen-year-old David Ybarra also made history, becoming the youngest Runoffs National Champion ever in his Mygale SJ14 Honda Formula F after a track blockage brought the final race to an early end under a black flag.

Eight Blackhawk Valley Region drivers competed at the Runoffs. In H Production, Steve Sargis overcame a mechanical issue that gridded him in 11th in the 15-car field. In a back-and-forth battle with Chicago Region Chris Schaafsma and Kansas Region’s Jesse Prather, he finished 3rd, earning a podium spot and the Sunoco Hard Charger Award. Ray Elliott entered the “Red Rabbit” in HP, gridded 10th, but did not start due to a mechanical problem.

Tad Lenhart drove a clean race in his Citation 90V Formula Vee from 37th to 21st place earning the Sunoco Hard Charger Award. In GT1, Dan Speer started 12th and finished 10th in his No. 59 Camaro. He won 15 gallons of Sunoco race fuel in the “Closest to .260” qualifying award in the first qualifying session.

In F Production, Mark Sargis qualified last place in 26th position in his Mazda Miata after completing only one qualifying session due to the heavy rain and numerous mechanical issues. He worked his way up as far as 5th finished 6th, earning the Sunoco Hard Charger Award, and he also won 15 gallons of fuel for being closest to .260 in qualifying.

Tazio Stefanelli climbed from 9th to 3rd in Formula F before an early black flag left him 6th overall. In Prototype, Gary Peck finished 7th after starting 10th; a 20-minute cleanup delay at Turn 14 limited the race to six of 13 laps. B-Spec racer Jonathan Wickert advanced from 19th to 14th in his Chevrolet Sonic. A disappointing Runoffs to him, but he looked pretty good out there. Congratulations to all our BVR members who ran in the 63rd SCCA National Runoffs.
