RE REFLECTIONS October, 2007
Sunday the 16th dawned with bright sun, blue sky, and light wind. Several of us were at the Autorama in Beloit, a collection of 1200 cars, hot rods, classics, muscle cars and the BVR booth. Nestled along the Rock River, the annual gathering brought together every car lover there ever was. We had a display right on the Midway, to show what our club does with cars. We had a Formula Vee (Jim Ryder), a SOLO CP Mustang (the Padbergs), and a AS Mustang (the Miksulas). You cannot imagine how many people stopped to look and talk and ogle at the TV in – car – tapes we had running. Teenage girls and boys got to talk with our drivers and hear what it is like to race. Whatever got you hooked on road racing or SOLO, that spark was passed on today to those who stopped by our booth. When I arrived at the Booth, I thought, Davidle Anderson has put together a really exciting show, I can see how the crowd walking by got so wrapped up in what BVR can offer to all ages. You could see the sparkle in the kids eyes when they stopped. What got me hooked years ago was the same excitement that our Booth generated today for everyone who walked by. Here is the short of it – Autorama is a 29 year old, annual car show. Park your special version of the American dream, plaster on some instant wax, and watch the crowds walk by. We decided to try a Booth, and bought a spot to place it. From this beginning, we will return next year and tell our story. We and all SCCA needs new members, and in our way, we will try different ways to gain some exposure. Autorama provides us one very good venue. If this very fun weekend provides us a place to display what we offer, then you will see us next year, same time, same place. |
