WORKER OF THE YEAR 2011

If you could name one value that defines the Worker of the Year what would it be? It probably would be the passion to perform that job at the track to their fullest AND … still have a lot of fun. That is the real key – have fun.

Isn’t that why we go to races – to have fun and see our friends . Every year the Board looks for someone who, over the years, as well as this year, has been working at the track not just for us, but for all regions.

A worker getting this award is someone who is well liked and can get others to pull together as a team.. someone who will perform double duty when one of the team is sick or cannot show up.

All of us staff work hard to put on races and we on the board realize how hard it is to choose someone who is deserving of the honor. This Banquet is our one opportunity to say thank you for years of service as a dedicated worker. We found one of us that has offered their talents for not only this year but over many years.

When I tell you who this individual is, you will be surprised at what a background we found. The individual I speak of wasn’t always a Worker but started out as a SOLO driver in the late 60s. During this time he got involved as a crewmember working every week on a Datsun 2000, that ran as a road race car. Can you even remember what these look like?

Did you know this person made all the trophies for our races in the late 70s and early 80s? Just think of making trophies, say 30 classes x 4 places deep, in your basement, from scratch. Our nominee also worked Registration on Friday nites, before any SCCA event at Blackhawk. But during the day this person could be found splitting duties between T/S and Course Marshall and crewing for the #6 FV thru 1987. Now this was when T/s used stopwatches for some of you. Now this routine went on for races put on by the other regions too. Remember the old yellow wreckers the track had? How many of you were towed back behind one of these relics? Our nominee used these for at least 15 years and somehow always made the trucks operate. When we lost the artwork for our emblem Pit Pass, our nominee sat down and reconstructed every detail to scale using prints from publications. We now use this artwork for all our clubs needs. The nominee for the last two decades has been to almost all SCCA events at Blackhawk and uses his own truck as a flat tow truck. If oil dry is needed on some turn out he goes - dropping and sweeping, and many of us don’t even notice this going on behind us. This whole time he has been our Course Marshall at every event.

For all the effort for all the years – Bruce Andersen – please accept this honor from BVR.
